Frequently Asked Questions

Do you/why don’t you use a replaceable derailleur hanger?

We do not use two-piece replaceable derailleur hangers — This is strictly for performance reasons.

We do have models with replaceable dropouts, and these keep the dropout and hanger as one solid, stiff piece so shifting performance is on par with our standard one-piece (non-replaceable) dropouts, but these should not to be confused as being the same as a two-piece hanger.

We’ve thought about this a lot. The replaceable hanger designs are weaker because the drop out can only be half as thick since there are two pieces; so, it’s more prone to bending.

Another problem with replaceable derailleur hangers is that they degrade shifting performance. In our tests, we found that the side-to-side flexing was the number one cause of ghost shifting.

Pushing the chain up and down the cogs puts an amazing amount of force on the hanger. Usually it’s the combination of hitting a bump and hanger flex that results in a ghost shift.

The third problem we’ve seen is that often the swingarm will still be damaged when the two-piece replaceable hanger breaks. Of course because they are about half as thick, they break easier, so your chances of having a problem increase. We decided to make the hanger as strong and stiff as possible so there would be very few problems. If our one-piece hanger gets bent, most of the time it can be bent back with a tool made for just that purpose (Your local bike shop will have the tool) If the threads get ruined they can be replaced too.
