Minnaar Conquers Ft. William!10th JUN 2015

Greg Minnaar waged and won an epic battle against tough competitors and Mother Nature at Fort William, Scotland at the second round of the DH World Cup.  Days of rain made the course a muddy mess leading up to the race, and the organizers called off practice and qualifiers on Saturday, and ran everything on Sunday.

Greg qualified fifth in the morning, and pinned it on his race run, finishing over a second ahead of Aaron Gwin.  This is Greg's 5th win at Ft. William, and his 17th World Cup DH win, which ties teammate Steve Peat’s record.

After the race, Greg said, "I'm super happy to win here again!  In my race run I didn't feel like I had done enough on top so I pushed harder in the woods than I had planned.  When I got to the motorway it hurt bad but I knew it had to hurt to pull this off.  A lot of people said it surprised them that I won and that I was under the radar, but I've had a few good races under my belt and good training that gave me confidence."

Josh Bryceland was riding really well during the first day of practice until he slammed a tree.  Fearing broken bones, he went to the hospital, but X-rays came back negative, and he was released with bones intact but very sore.  He used the day off on Saturday to rest and on Sunday decided he could race. He rode a solid race and placed 31st — all the more impressive considering the injuries he suffered to his chest and shoulder. He collected 50 valuable UCI points, and moves into 11th in the overall. Greg's win puts him third in World Cup standings.
