I started racing bmx as a kid around the age of 6 or 7. And then I got into jumping my bmx at Calabasas jumps in San Jose Ca. It was a long drive, so my dad, brother and I started building dirt jumps and ramps in my yard. I stopped riding bmx for a while and got into dirt bikes. That was a really far drive too. I got my first mountain bike and I think I was 12. That was the end of it all for me, I was hooked, a cross between bmx and motocross, what could be better?
My brother and Dad because they always were so stoked to hear what I had done that day and would convince me to do something bigger and better the next day. Kyle Strait was in the sea otter dirt jump contest a few years back, and I was watching like a hawk. We were the same age so I was really interested to see how he would do. He won the fricken contest with a heel clicker and a no footed can. I think the next day I went to my jumps and started to learn the heel clicker. Then I started to watch John Cowan and Timo in the Disorders and tried to do what they were doing, it just went from there.
I've ruptured my spleen, broke both my ankles and was in a wheel chair for 2 months, I've broken my collar bone, and a couple of ribs.
Surf, Snow board, wakeboard, 50's and motorcycles. I also have a sweet scooter.
Lets see, I suck pretty hard at surfing but I can turn and surf you could say, ah, I did a 25 ft gap on a snowboard, I can 360 on a wake board about 30% of the time, I can nac nac on a 50, and my scooter does wheelies.
I like to sing in the gate, it psyches the other riders out and allows you to stay calm, here's a story for ya, I was racing slalom and I was singing ba ba ba ba barbra anne and a bunch of beach boys songs in the gate of every round and everyone was waiting for me to get out, but I made it through every round that you could, I podiumed and everyone I beat was kinda pissed. It's a good technique to stay calm though.
To get a top five at a slopestyle, stay heathy, and get to do a lot of comps and have fun traveling.
I eat Mexican food a lot, and also cajun chicken pasta, just riding your bike helps too, even if its to the beach and back to check the waves or to get a burrito at the taco shop.
To lay back and enjoy the ride. I just don't want to stress about anything, and to ride my bike or something like a bike ( like one of those chairs that old people cruz in, I think they are called rascals) - the ones with 3 wheels and electric motors.
1st at the sea otter dirt jump comp 2005
6th place + best trick in the gathering dirt jump comp
Bailing off my bike over a 45 foot gap. The fall from the top is fun, but after you land the next 2 months in a wheel chair are not.
I really liked the set up of the gathering. Six pack with multiple hips and the best dirt you will ever see in your life. Red clay and it was in a stadium too, it was sweeeeeeeeeeet.
