Santa Cruz Syndicate - World Cup 2012 Round 7

Minnaar 2nd Overall UCI World Cup Series, 3rd In Norway!20th SEP 2012

Jell, Norway

Greg Minnaar put his focus on the track at the season finale of the UCI World Cup Downhill Series racing his way into 3rd place in Hafjell, Norway, taking 2nd overall for 2012! Josh Bryceland had a great 4th place qualifier and was the last of the Syndicate boys down the hill and he managed an 8th place finish. His efforts boost him to 6th overall showing his consistency this year has paid off. After riding well all week and having a 10th place qualifier, Steve Peat attacked the top of the track but was blown by a wind gust and went off the track losing 15 seconds and his hopes for a top ten finish. He finishes the season off 35th overall.

This was the first World Cup that Hafjell has hosted and they delivered a great race. Rider's loved the track, which had a mixture of flow, jumps, roots, berms, gnarly rock gardens, and old school open, grassy off-camber sections. The organizers went out of their way to make sure everyone was well taken care of. The Norwegian fans that came out to watch were very enthusiastic and loud!

This was Greg's first race in his rainbow jersey and it looked fitting on him. The rain made it muddy but washing the mud off the stripes was a pleasure! Greg's result proved that he won't be a victim of the curse of the rainbow jersey and I suspect 2013 will bode well for him as he wears the stripes all season. He was pleased with his result and happy to retain his 2nd place overall to Aaron Gwin.

Josh says, "I felt my race run was an anticlimax after a great week riding with the Syndicate. The good thing to come out of the weekend was finishing the series in 6th position. I'd like to thank everyone who has supported me this year. I feel it's been another stepping stone towards my career goals."

A disappointed Peaty says, "I felt everything was in place for a top result this weekend. Practice went well with Greg and Josh and my V-10 was working sweet. I felt really fast on track and I really enjoyed this track. I was confident going into finals after a solid qualifying, but made a mistake before the first split and flew off the track. I'm so frustrated at this but it seems to be the way my season has gone. I just want to thank all the Syndicate sponsors and staff for giving me the opportunity to race this season."

Greg says, "My goal was to maintain 2nd overall so I'm stoked to have done that even though to me 2nd and 3rd is the same. But reflecting back, I want to thank everyone who helped me this year, we had a great year. Finishing off with 2nd in the World Cup and World Champion... It can only get a tiny bit better than this."
