Syndicate’s Peat And Bryceland 3rd And 4th At The Halo Bds Season Opener

March 20, 2011
Nant Gwrtheyrn, Wales

The race season has officially started in Britain with the Halo British Downhill Series kicking it off in Nant Gwrtheyrn in North Wales.  Marc Beaumont blasts out a win with his winter training apparent, followed by Alex Bond. Steve Peat takes third with a bobble that caused him to stop on the course and Josh Bryceland was just .25 seconds behind him for fourth.

Upon arriving for practice the riders were greeted with sunny skies above this rough and rocky downhill track.  A storm was promised for race day and it arrived!  Josh Bryceland recounts the weekend here:

“British Nationals round one last weekend came at me like a northern bullet! Despite the usual "where did the season come from, it was January five minutes ago" feelings, I was stoked and ready to get some proper racing underway!

This is the best winter I have had to date.... Well, I call it winter but I’ve not really seen too much of it (since I was in Portugal for much of it), hence it being so good.   Friday came round and down I went to Nant G with dad’s race van loaded.  I couldn't wait!

The weekend was brilliant, good to catch up with a lot of people I only get to see at races.  Despite the weather being mostly crap, there was a good vibe to the event and I was stoked to have Andy Kyffin spannering for me, and keeping plenty of laughs up the pits!

Me and Steve rode together most the weekend and the track was ever changing.   When it came to the race run, after a 6 hour wait, I thought things might get interesting!  I rode with caution, sometimes it was necessary where turns had blown, sometimes I felt like a pussy, but in the end I was happy with my run!  Marc Beaumont and Steve both killed it!   Also mixing it up with the big dogs was Al Bond doing an awesome time knocking me off the podium!  Ending up 4th at my first race of the season with such a stacked field was not a disappointment! I drove home with a grin on my face and now I feel all the hard work has paid off and I’m ready for a season full of action!!

It was also a buzz to make my first outing in my full 2011 set up representing my all new sponsor FOX head... head to toe! Big shout out to all my sponsors, looking forward to a great season!  Peace!  Ratboy”

Steve Peat had a great first outing with his Steve Peat Syndicate, but he himself admits he wasn’t too happy with the outcome of his run and says, “I ended up 3rd on my Santa Cruz V10, but I had a pretty bad bobble and stopped dead on a fast bit so I’m not happy!  SPSyndicate all did great on our first race together”
